  • Now Hiring Summer Camp Staff
    2007 staff pic

Camp Gravatt is currently recruiting talented and dedicated individuals who are interested in making a difference in the spiritual and personal growth of young people this summer. Being a part of summer camp staff can be a life-changing experience. The work is hard and the pay is low, but the benefits are infinite. Program staff, counselor and junior counselor applications are being accepted. Applications and position descriptions are available online or by calling Lauri at 803-981-9108.

    Leadership Changes

You may have heard that there have been changes going on at Gravatt. You might say we are currently "under construction." The staff is very excited about what opportunities these changes will bring.

The Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina recently gave responsibility for The Bishop Gravatt Center to a transitional Board of Directors. Members of the board are Peter Trenholm (chair), Ron Gregory, Mitchell Tibshrany and Bishop Henderson. The board's job is to transition Gravatt to a self-supporting, nonprofit organization. This change will probably go unnoticed by most regular visitors. While Gravatt is becoming independent from EDUSC, our purpose remains to provide a Christian environment for spiritual renewal, learning and growth - all in the Episcopal tradition. We will maintain a strong relationship with the EDUSC. Gravatt also remains open for groups outside the church to enjoy the Conference Center and Adventure and Discovery Center.

In addition, Duncan Ely resigned as executive director of The Bishop Gravatt Center. Duncan left Gravatt December 31 to pursue a seminary degree. We thank him for his service and wish him well in his new endeavors.

Finally, Beth Kelly was hired as director of the conference center in August, and Lauri Yeargin was hired as director of Camp Gravatt in October. Beth has worked in food service at Gravatt for several years, and Lauri served as assistant camp director in 2006 and also served on camp staff from 1987 to 1991. Both women are very excited about their new roles.

    Gravatt Featured in The State

Recently the Bishop Gravatt Center was featured in The State newspaper as a great place to go hiking. We couldn't agree more! You can check out the full article on The State's web site.

    camper picture

Camp Gravatt is getting ready for its 58th summer of operation. At Camp Gravatt campers make friends, share in an affirming, Christian community, experience unconditional love, and have fun! Activities include archery, arts-and-crafts, canoeing, swimming, challenge course, campfires, singing, Bible study, worship and more. Staff members work to nurture and develop campers' self-esteem, rather than competitive expertise in a particular sport or skill.

    • 9-day and a 10-day junior high session options
    • multi-session and multi-sibling discounts
    • credit card acceptance on-line or by phone with no additional fees (on-line acceptance coming very soon!)
