The counselor-in-training (CIT) program is
designed to give rising 10th graders an opportunity for a
step-up from being a camper to being a staff member. There are only 32
CIT spaces – 16 for girls and 16 for boys. CIT's attend two regular
sessions (sessions 2 and 3 OR sessions 5 and 6), going home in between
sessions. They live together in a Byrd House and actively participate in
camp life. CIT's may be assigned to work with a tent of campers under
the direction of a counselor and junior counselor or in an activity area
of interest (arts and crafts, waterfront, Christian formation, etc.)
under the director of that area. There are numerous opportunities for
CIT's to learn different areas of camp leadership. CIT's also
participate as a team in special training designed specifically to
develop leadership skills and prepare them to take on more
responsibility as a staff member.
CIT's pay a reduced camp fee and in
exchange will receive the opportunity of a lifetime to make great
friends, grow spiritually, and develop leadership skills.
Registration is by the regular camp registration form and is accepted on
a first-come, first-served basis - there is not an application process.
Rising 10th graders may also
apply to be junior counselors; however, due to the number of JC
applicants, older candidates who meet the qualifications will be given
preference.
