Gravatt Welcomes New Board Member: Father Clyde Ireland
|
 His
name and face are familiar, but he's back at the
Bishop Gravatt Center in a new role: Father Clyde
Ireland has joined the Bishop Gravatt Center's Board
of Directors. "For more than half a century, the
Bishop Gravatt Center has been a major source of
ministry for children and adults," says Father
Clyde, "I am pleased to again be a part of this
ministry." Father Clyde joins Bishop Dorsey
Henderson, Ron Gregory, Mitchell Tibshrany and Peter
Trenholm in providing leadership for Gravatt.
The Board is currently making plans for renovations
to the Conference Center. More details on these
improvements will be shared as plans progress.

Calling All Gravatt Staff Alumni!
|
Mark your calendar for
April 19, 2008!
We're planning a Gravatt Staff and Volunteer
Reunion. Plans are in their infancy, and we are so
grateful to Christine Tibshrany Koutrakos, who has
agreed to chair this event.
Please help us locate former Gravatt staffers and
volunteers. Forward this information to alumni you
know, or send us their contact information
directly. And be sure we have your up-to-date
information too! Send your name, mailing address,
telephone number, email address and years you were
on staff or served as a volunteer to
gravattreunion@gmail.com, and let us know if
you'd like to volunteer on the Reunion Commitee.

Thank You to Our Volunteers |
The Bishop Gravatt Center depends on volunteers for
a variety of purposes. The staff would like to
thank those folks who volunteered with us at the
Palmetto Sportmen's Classic in Columbia - Holly
Rankin Zaher, John Reddic, Marion Swain, Jason
Coleman, Melanie Carter and Ashley Sprott.
We're also grateful to Phyllis McElveen, who hosted
our first "camp party." It was lots of fun. The
kids there received free water bottles and one lucky
winner got a Gravatt hat. We're sure to see some
new campers this summer as a result of Phyllis's
willingness to host.
And Chris How designed our web site and continues to
provide assistance when we can't figure out what
we're doing. If you haven't checked out our web
site recently, you really should!
If you have a talent you'd like to share with the
Bishop Gravatt Center, please let us know. We can
use help with facilities maintenance and repair,
lawn maintenance, office work, publicity, the
reunion committee, kitchen duties and more. We'd
love to hear from you!

Camp Gravatt
Filling Fast!
|
 |
The Camp Gravatt staff continues preparation for a great
summer camp season. The new cabin is all but complete,
St. John's Columbia will dedicate boys' cabin 5 on May
6, we have a new dam and will soon have a new dock!
In addition to the facilities prep work, we are planning
a great faith formation program, which will be lead by
our lay chaplain - a staff member returned from days
gone by, Holly Rankin Zaher. You'll see lots of other
old faces on staff this summer and some new ones too.
To see a complete list of permanent staff hired so far
click here. We are still accepting applications for
male counselors and junior counselors, so please share
that information with qualified candidates.
If you're planning to send your camper to Gravatt this
summer, and just haven't gotten around to registering,
you'd better hurry! Session 1-Boys and Session 3-Girls
are closed, and many other sessions are filling fast.
