Photography: Capture the Ones You Love

Ever wondered how photography can improve your relationships? Join professional photographer, Heather Sargent, as she shares with you the top ten ways to improve your photography skills and why your loved ones will thank you for it. Bring your digital camera (any kind) and your significant other or friend, and have fun learning how to take flattering photos of any subject with any camera. The $30 includes materials, instructor's fee, and a light supper.
 
Friends of Gravatt Oyster Roast

5 - 10 PM
All Friends of Gravatt members are invited to join us for oysters, chili, and a campfire by Lake Sylvia. There is no charge for the event, but donations to help cover the cost will be accepted. Lenten Retreat
February 26 and 27
The retreat theme centers on remaining present in the body, mind, and spirit throughout our walk with Christ. Participants will experience 24 hours of self reflection through yoga, prayer, meditation, and creative self-expression. The $85 fee includes program, double occupancy lodging, and three meals. Private rooms are available for an additional $30.

Monotype Printmaking

Mary How will teach a fun type of printmaking made by painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The lesson will include spontaneously executing several prints by painting on acrylic plates then transferring the paintings to paper thereby creating a unique or monotype print. The $35 fee includes materials, instructor's fee, and a light supper.

Fairy Gardens

Let your imagination run wild as we create a Gravatt's Village of Fairy Houses. Fairy Houses are small structures for the fairies and nature’s friends to visit. Sticks, bark, dry grasses, pebbles, shells, feathers, seaweed, pine cones and nuts are just some of the natural materials used. Ranging from rustic to intricate "Fairy Mansions," these whimsical habitats are built by children, families, gardeners, and nature lovers reflecting their creativity, joy, and pride. This event is great for families. Cost is $30 for adults and $10 for each additional participant over the age of 4, with a family max of $50. (Children 3 and under are free.) The includes materials, instructor's fee, and a light supper.
 
Camp Gravatt Reunion

Former staff members and volunteers from far and wide will return to Camp Gravatt for a weekend of reminiscing with old friends, enjoying delicious Gravatt fare at the dining hall, and fun camp activities we all remember and love. Day only and overnight options are available.

Silk Painting with Paula Bowers

4 - 6:30 PM
Paint a beautiful silk scarf. During this class, learn the basics of silk painting using the Serti Method. No experience is necessary, and all supplies are included. The $55 fee includes materials, instructor's fee, and a light supper.

Watercolor for beginners... no experience necessary. Enjoy playing with watercolor and creating a beautiful flower garden. All supplies are included. The $45 fee includes materials, instructor's fee, and a light supper.

Creating a Talisman with Mary How

A talisman is an object held to act as a charm to avert evil and bring good fortune. Explore the act of creating meaningful art with intention. Learn to set a personal intention or goal, and create a talisman that can help you align with that intention. Bring 2 - 3 personal items that can be incorporated into your art. The $35 fee includes materials, instructor's fee, and a light supper.
 
Yoga Retreat

Jemme Bethune Stewart is a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric nursing and a licensed professional counselor. In addition, she is a registered yoga teacher. Jemme has been working in private practice as a psychotherapist for 40 years in Columbia, South Carolina. She has been teaching yoga at City Yoga in Columbia for three years. In the last couple of years she has been bringing together her practice of psychotherapy and yoga and meditation to offer clients a more comprehensive opportunity for healing. Enjoy a weekend of Christian yoga practice, meditation, prayer, and self-healing. Healthy meals will be the fare. Massage therapy will be offered for an additional fee. $185 includes program, two night's double occupancy lodging, and six meals. Private rooms are available for an additional $30.

Linoleum Printmaking/Making Holiday Cards with Mary How
Thursday, November 15
4 - 6:30 PM
Linocut is a form of relief printing. Learn to carve into a piece of linoleum and create multiple prints made by placing a sheet of paper on top so the ink is transferred to the paper. Bring a simple image you would like to use for the card. Teh $35 fee includes materials, instructor's fee, and a light supper.
 
Advent Retreat

Facilitators Mary How and Jemme Stewart will guide participants through 24 hours of self reflection with yoga, prayer, meditation, and creative self-expression. The Advent Retreat is designed to help you slow down during a season often overwrought with tasks and chores. The retreat centers on remaining present in the body, mind, and spirit throughout the busy holiday season. The $85 fee includes program, double occupancy lodging, and three meals. Private rooms are available for an additional $30.
